Dulcie May Kitchen Newsletter
May 2009
Hi again to you all, and for those of you just signed up for the monthly news WELCOME!!
We have been at Dulcie May Kitchen now for over 3 months, and we are certainly starting to enjoy the community feel as it so much of what Dulcie was all about. It has been great getting to know our regulars a bit more each day or week, and for me it has been a pleasure hearing especially from the men who have commented about how they are starting to cook out of ‘Gran's Kitchen' - some of you have never cooked before in your life and are getting great pleasure out of the recipes - Gran would be so proud of you all!! I especially enjoy hearing via email all your stories and feedback, thank you so much for all your kind words over the past month with Gran passing it has been incredible.
We have a lot on this month at Dulcie May Kitchen - We had a book review on TV3 Sunrise and we sent in some baking from the shop for them to eat - of course they loved it all!! Gran was also featured in this month's NEXT magazine. If you haven't had the chance to read it yet go out and grab a copy. We have included a snipet of the article below, it is a fantastic summary of who Gran was and what she believed life was all about. We are also doing a cooking segment on the Good Morning show later in the month, so watch out for that one. We will be doing recipes out of the book, so for some extra tips keep your eyes and ears out for the time and date - call, email or next time you are in we will let you know the time and date.
Happy cooking, hope you try some new recipes this month.

Live Longer & Feel Great - Next Magazine
When asked what is the secret to a long life, 96 year old Dulcie Booker says: "I've always liked people and I still love people. We've all got a bit of good in us and a bit of bad in us. I take people as the come and try to help them."
Dulcie lived all her life in Weymouth, South Auckland, from the time of coal ranges and family farms to todays internet wired suburbia. For 66 years she lived in the house built for her and her husband Fred in 1942. Fred died 8 years ago, but Dulcie has four children, 17 grandchildren, more than 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren to keep her company. "I have a good family - how lucky am I!" says Dulcie.
Dulcie says she is happy in her 90's and has been for most of her life. She reels off particular highlights: "Getting married to the man I love, having children, being in my own house until recently." And as for what's to come? "I'm not afraid of death. The little part I don't like is leaving my family behind."
