Dulcie May Kitchen Newsletter
Christmas Newsletter - December 2009
It has been an amazing year and I can hardly believe Christmas is nearly here.
Dulcie May Kitchen is getting busier and busier, and as you will read below we have recently won ‘Best Cake Shop' in Auckland in the latest Metro Magazine. It is an incredible achievement for a business that is yet to reach its first year.
Spring seemed to come and go very quickly for me however a day didn't go by without thinking of Gran as it was her favourite time of year and she would certainly be enjoying the roses at the moment if she was still with us.
With Christmas just around the corner we now have Christmas Mince Tarts, Christmas Cakes with Brandy Butter Icing and Christmas Gift Hampers. We also now produce catering and large cakes to order. This menu will be available on our website www.dulciemaykitchen.com
I wish you all the best for Christmas and the New Year. I hope you all get a break and enjoy making some lasting summer memories with family and friends.
See you all soon and cheers for your on-going support.

Metro Best of Auckland - 'Best Cake Shop Winner'
‘Right next to Wild-Wheat and calling itself retro-urban Dulcie May Kitchen sells a heavenly line-up of big and little cakes, slices and baking delights. Our favourite is the Napoleon: a sandwich of flaky pastry with cream, raspberry jam and icing on top.'
Mt Eden had a great result with many local businesses winning - Mt Eden is obviously the place to be if you want the best!!!

Taste Magazine October 2009 - 'Place to Eat'

‘It's preserving day and Dulcie May Kitchen and the air is sweet with the smell of homemade jam. A customer who ‘only stopped to buy a scone' leaves laden with the newly jarred jam as well as classics such as Weetbix Slice and Napoleons. Almost all the goodies sold at Dulcie May Kitchen in Mt Eden, Auckland are made from family recipes of Dulcie May Booker, owner Natalie Oldfield's grandmother. Dulcie lived in rural Weymouth were, as in many New Zealand towns, baking was an important part of life. "I think the food we have reminds people of their own grandmother or what they grew up with," says Natalie.
Natalie has produced a cookbook called ‘Gran's Kitchen which not only shares her Gran's recipes, but also documents an old way of life. Dulcie May passed away earlier this year at the age of 96, but not before attending the opening of the cafe and hearing that the recipe book reached number three on the non-fiction book charts.
